Thailand

Thailand: Feb 2006

As we had such a good time in the Philippines, we asked Chris at Symbiosis to take us to the Andamans. Due to the political state in Burma he persuaded us that Thailand would be simpler - we concur and between us devise a 17 day plan to Hike, Paddle and Dive across Thailand.

We begin in Chang Mai - a bustling town in the north with colourful markets, Buddhist temples and street food. The next day we set off even further north to Mae Hong Son - a sleepy hamlet with very few westeners. We are met at the airport by our guide Chan who takes us to our hotel and briefs us on what we'll be doing over the next three days. I kept a daily diary of our adventures:

Back to Chang Mai then flight to Phuket and transfer to Khao Sok national park - a large fresh water reservoir. A 1 hour boat ride (I said it was large) takes us between huge karst limestone rocks to our floating village (8 bamboo sheds). We spend 3 nights here kayaking with Paddle Asia enjoying the nature in a peaceful and serene manner. We return to Phuket (horrid place full of tourists) to rendevous with the liveaboard Scuba Adventure for 4 days diving. All in all an amazing trip.
